My Story

Who am I ?

My name is Maryam Vahid Dastgerdi. I was born in Isfahan, Iran in 1986. I have been interested in art since my early childhood. My mom was a great motivation and support for my artistic endeavor. She has mastered several creative skills - sewing, knitting, embroidery, weaving Persian carpet, etc - all by herself. I always admired her strong personality and delicate taste.

As a child, I spent hours and hours painting or making my story book with its pictures without feeling the time. At school, I was lucky to have very good art teachers who showed me different techniques and taught me a lot about crafts, painting and Persian calligraphy.

During and after my high school, I took several courses in art, including the drawing training offered by Isfahan University of Fine Arts, and Persian calligraphy offered by Isfahan calligraphers association.

Later, I became focused on my higher education and pursuit of my passion for mathematics. I came to Paris for the first time in 2016 in the middle of my PhD studies, where I was working with a great mathematician for a year. Then I returned to Iran and finished my dissertation. I came back to Paris as a postdoc researcher in 2019 while I was waiting for my scientific papers to be published so that I could defend my dissertation. In 2020, in the middle of the pandemic and lockdown, I obtained my PhD in Financial Mathematics.

It was in 2021 when I realized that I am still strongly drawn to art, and I found abstract art very appealing. I kept making more and more paintings and the further I went the more serious art became to me.

I held my first exhibition in Palaiseau, my current city of residence, from 1 October to 30 Nov, 2022.

Looking forward to the future of this adventure!

  How did I get here?

Inner Voices.jpg

It was an evening, April 2021.

I was searching my mind and the internet for my next professional adventure.

All of a sudden I felt uncomfortable.

I had no choice than closing my laptop, piking up a pen

and a piece of cartoon next to my hand

and let my hand go.

What jumped on the paper was incredible!

A group of faces who were staring at me with surprise, saying:

"Isn't it obvious what you should do?!

Are you going to continue keeping us inside and look around?!

Just let us live with you! Live your life with us! With art!"

Yes, I'm talking about the picture above!

Do you hear them too?

Anyways.

It took me a while to overcome hesitation

and start thinking about art as my profession and starting my art enterprise.

 â€‹Eventually it is coming real.

This website is designed to show case my original art works

as well as a store to sell them.

Do you like a piece or a collection and would like to have it printed

on your home deco, accessories, stationaries, or simply on a bigger size

poster or canvas?

I have a good new for you! It is possible!

The print collections in the shop page of this website makes it possible for you to choose the pieces you love and print it on the products you wish!

Give it a try!

It is worth emphasising that although the originals are for sale

(unless otherwise stated),

the copyright remains mine.

I keep the right to print them on different mediums

and the buyers of the originals don't have the right to make copies or prints of my art work.

At the moment I am doing it all on my own.

But I have big dreams.

I hope this enterprise become an incubator

for the skilled people and artists who are living in difficult situations

and help them not only improve their own lives,

but also upgrade an epsilon neighbourhood around them.

I hope these epsilons accumulate

and make the world a better place for more and more people.

I am looking forward to "Maryam Dastgerdi et al."!
